Junior Full Stack Developer

Role Description

The role involves devising technological solutions that fulfil the functional requirements of creative briefs, usually on a project basis. Problem solving is key as some solutions will not be immediately obvious and will require an innovative mind. Grand Visual also has a number of in-house systems and workflows that the Junior Full Stack Developer will need to understand and use. Training and support will be given where needed to build on base skills. Enthusiasm and a desire to learn is essential. Due to the status of our clients and the nature of digital-out-of-home infrastructure, attention to detail and thoroughness are also essential such that our applications are stable and issue free. The Grand Visual technical team is highly motivated and skilled - working with the best clients in the world; an enthusiastic, can-do attitude is a must. The applications Grand Visual build is highly creative and, so while no specific creative skills are necessary, an appreciation and interest in creativity is highly desirable.

WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR_

  • Front End – The role requires standard web development skills; HTML, CSS and JavaScript – with an appetite to grow into more advanced skills, templating engines and frameworks, such as, Blade (Laravel), Vue.js, SASS and TypeScript.
  • Back End – The backend stack focusses primarily on PHP and, namely, the Laravel framework. Occasionally, the job may require alternative backends, such as, NodeJS for more specialist use-cases.
  • The role also requires simple use of frontend build tools like Vite or Webpack/Laravel Mix.
  • Databases – The Junior Full Stack Developer must be comfortable writing and/or executing simple database queries for relational MySQL databases. As the role grows, they will be expected to perform more impactful changes such as authoring database migrations.
  • Develop – The position requires some basic DevOps skill. This comprises of performing rudimentary tasks on the AWS dashboard, simple Docker usage and some confidence using command line tools and services.
  • We use collaborative working methods across the business to ensure the integrity of our releases. You’ll be expected to follow processes and help define future ones to help maintain the quality of our technical output. You will be expected to plan and manage your own time so that both project and other business responsibilities are met.
  • Ability to think creatively and technically. Demonstrate a good understanding of web, digital technologies and development techniques.
  • Works directly into the Technical Director but is supervised day-to-day by senior full-stack developers – this relationship is key to the effectiveness of the role. Additionally has a day-to-day working relationship with other members of the Technology Department and project teams as required.
